about:  me & this blog

I'm a librarian and amateur photographer, painter, mixed media artist, calligrapher, art journaler, living in Zürich, Switzerland.

In this blog, I want to share some of my black & white photography, as well as writing about my experiences with exploring the wonderful world of monochrome photography.

Black & white, or rather monochrome, photography to me encompasses:
pure black & white,
plus shades of grey,
sepia tones,
added (warm-up and other) filters (usually in post processing),
and even the odd play with selective colour.

I bought my first DSLR camera, a Canon EOS 550D, in May 2010, and I'm still learning, both about photography and post processing. The opportunities digital photography offers to black & white photography are amazing, and often also intimidating. There are so many different ways in producing a black & white image from a (colour) digital image, and I'm still exploring them and trying to find the best ways that work for me.

I've also started using my parent's old Minolta Hi-Matic 7s and I am now, along with digital photography, rediscovering analogue photography and the new possibilities of combining the two medias.
